2018 has been a really rough year for me. In the last 14 months I have had 2 major abdominal surgeries (including a hysterectomy) which were complications from an implanted contraceptive device, I moved my whole family to Australia (3 out of 4 of them are preteens/ teens females), and then I got this weird virus that made me dizzy and confused for weeks! Being someone who has HARDLY ever had health issues (in fact I have always prided myself on my rombust health) this year has been just really difficult. I have relied very heavily on my health habits but I in the last few months I have noticed that I have let some of these habits slip a bit. No- I have not being drinking diet coke, or eating loads of greasy food but my water consumption has been inconsistent, I haven’t been eating enough veggies, I have been lazy taking my supplements, I’ve been eating too much chocolate….you get the picture.

I recently took a long weekend with my husband at the Margaret River in Western Australia, and I had a moment to reflect on what I want for this next year. 2018 has been a year of recovery and lessons learnt, but I want 2019 to be a BIG year for me, my family and for KidzShake. I wrote down all my goals, and it became obvious that I need MY health to be TIP TOP in order to get all this done. We all know the safety talk when we get on an airplane “put your own oxygen mask on before you attend to your kids.” The same concept applies with our health. We cannot support our families effectively without looking after ourselves first. And we shouldn’t feel guilty about looking after ourselves!

To be ready to ROAR in 2019, I need to recommit to these healthy habits right now to be ready for 2019 and this is how I am going to make it happen: Every week starting from Monday, November 26th I making a PROMISE to myself to make one lasting life change and I would love it if you would join me too. They will be gradual changes that are totally sustainable during the Holidays, but together they will add up to a MASSIVE HEALTH IMPROVEMENT as I enter the New Year. To tell you the truth, I am pretty excited to feel the changes in my body and my mind.

I recently read the book “Girl, Was your Face” by Rachel Hollis and it was full of so many gems. I strongly recommend you read the entire book yourself, but here are some of my favs:

“You, and only you are responsible for who you become and how happy you are.”

“I established a rule in my life that I would no longer break a promise to myself, no matter how small it was.”

“When you really want something, you will find a way. When you don’t really want something you will find an excuse.”

“Hustle for Joy.”

This week my goal is ONE big salad a day. Load up your salad with leafy greens and vegetables and bonus health points if you can include loads of different colored vegetables and some sprouts! Check out my KidzShake IG stories and I will post some of my yummy salads and I would love it if you would share your pics, too. I have also started these pinterest boards for yummy salad ideas and salad dressings if you would like some salad inspiration.

Let’s use hashtag #tiptop2019 to keep track of each other. I would love to see your progress!

Salad Tips:
+Always have dryslaw or undressed kaleslaw in the fridge to bulk up a salad (plus they last for a while without going bad)
+Make up your favorite salad dressings on the weekend for a week of quick, yummy salads
+Roast some veggies to add loads of flavor to salads
+Keep a mix or nuts and seeds on hand to sprinkle over a salad. The crunch factor is irresistable.

Good luck, and don’t forget to show me how you’re doing by using #tiptop2019 when you post!

Bye now! -Rach
